Butch Bakery

Move over buttercream...this is a Man's cupcake! Butch Bakery in NYC leaves the sprinkles and unicorns behind and introduces a "dude's" cupcake. Every manly treat is topped with a chocolate disc in awesome patterns like camo, woodgrain, houndstooth or plaid, and most of the flavors are cocktail-based. With names like Jackhammer, Rum & Coke, Mojito, Tailgate and Big Papi - we know this aint grandma's cupcake! We hear the B-52 is really the bomb! (Just sayin)

Sadly, for us westcoasters, we will have to wait a bit for these manly sweets. For now, they only deliver within NYC. They state that they will be able to ship throughout the US and the purple mountains majesty some time this year. So I can't wait to get Butch!

Happy 4th of July

Now I'm not one to brag or anything, but I bake a mean pecan tart. I mean mean. I only do it for special occasions cause it requires a lot of my time, and I just don't seem to have a lot of that these days.

My top secret recipe has a buttery, creamy, flaky dough baked from scratch, and although I could simply use a cookie/pastry cutter to easily form the crusts of each mini tart, I choose to mold it all by hand right into the mini muffin pans. That takes the most time.

Now I can't go and share my secret recipe for my pecan tarts, cause then it would no longer be a secret, and everyone has their little secrets right?

So here's a modified version I picked up from my fave baking blog Bake or Break, that's not as secret, and almost as yummy.

So while the men are out firing up the grill this 4th of July, bake a batch of these and share with the family.

Manna

As if my belly weren't already big enough, it got even fuller this evening after we indulged in some all-you-can-eat meatfest at Manna Korean BBQ.

My cousins are in town from Michigan and so instead of taking them to typical tourist spots like Universal Citywalk or Glendale's Americana to eat, they opted for some smoke infested, grease sticking, korean bbq action. And that was fine by me!

Birthdays are a riot at this place. But that's all I'll say about that or now since we plan on taking some innocent victims there for theirs, and let's just say some champagne surprises will ensue.

So venture on to Koreatown and get ready for some Manna action. Warning: your hair and clothes will never be the same.

Chocolate Sushi

What's better than sushi? Chocolate Sushi, of course! They've taken dessert gifting and catering to a whole new sweet level! Chocolate Sushi is available in either assorted boxes or for dessert services for your next event.

Since I'm baking another bun in the oven, I'm steering clear of sushi and chocolate, but a gal can dream can't she? As soon as September hits, I'll be getting my hands on one..or some!

Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookie

Yes, I've received that chain email many years ago...and by now, most of you have too, I'm sure. But like most chain emails, I paid no attention to it. Delete.
Well years later, and now that I have Mr Red, who is a self proclaimed "Cookie Monster," I've now become a Chocolate Chip Cookie Connoissuer. Personally, I don't like Chocolate Chips, my ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie would be sans chocolate chips. Then people always ask me why I just don't get a sugar cookie instead...It's just not the same. So my son and I eat the perfect cookie together perfectly. I eat the cookie parts, and he eats the chocolate chip parts!..

...I digress...So my girlfriends told me about this Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe again, and so we finally try it, and low and behold, it's one freaking yummy cookie!

So give it a try. I don't have a sweet tooth, I don't really like cookies, but this one was good enough for me to post, so that's gotta say something.

Bun in the Oven

As some of you may already know, I've got another bun in the oven! Yup, we're expecting again, and Mr. Red is still in denial. But speaking of buns in the oven, I came across this mouth watering blog, SCANWHICHES, and it's just scrumptuous! Yesterday's featured sandwich is one of my faves, a Vietnamese Banh Mi! Oh how I miss those, and I just don't know where to get any! So I will just stare at the scan with delight for now. I've been craving sandwiches like crazy this time around, and so this blog is hell on my cravings! So enjoy the bounty of buns in the oven! Happy Friday the 13th!

Here Come the Samoas!

Yes it's about that time of year again! I'll soon hear the knocking on my door, and my old pals, the Samoas, will be ready to greet me! The Girl Scout Cookies have arrived! Let's see how many boxes we buy this year. "Mr. Red" - is now in full Cookie mode - so me thinks he'll want a box of his own. Or maybe it's just cause I don't wanna share mine ;) Regardless, the cookies are back in town! So find your nearest troop, or let them find you!

p.s. The Girl Scouts state their cookies are not affected by the Peanut Butter Recall.

KOGI Korean BBQ Truck

Think Taco Truck - but with a Koren BBQ Flavor! Yes it's so cool. KOGI is in town and filling hungry LA tummies one truck stop at a time. We caught this taco truck at their Silverlake stop not too long ago, and it was worth the hype and wait. (I'll post our pics eventually). We pretty much got one of everything - cause it's such a deal! $2 tacos and $5 burritos - and daily specials galore. And remember the best part, it's Korean BBQ! Yummmm! Check out their site to get the latest news and their upcoming schedule to see when they will stop near you! You can also follow them on Twitter. They cater as well so book em now!

Best part #2 - the husband of the dynamic duo behind this concept is Filipino! So he promises Filipino Items on the menu soon! Can't wait!
